There have been recent technological advances in the gypsum cement underlayment market that raises the bar on what you, the customer, should expect from a gypsum cement underlayment product. As a customer, you should no longer live with gypsum products that rate less than 2000 PSI. Manufacturers are now providing gypsum cement underlayments with PSI ratings from 2500 to 4500 pounds.
These products will last longer and will have less tendancy to crumble under years of traffic under hard finished floors like ceramic and vinyl tile.

Sound Dampening Mat Systems
The greatest problem facing multi-family construction is unwanted sound transmission. Enkasonic matting is a solution that's been reducing sound transmissionin floors since 1982. Durex installs the Enkasonic matting before the gypsum cement is poured; creating a sound-dampening wafer that reduces sound by 5-% over rubber pads and polymer sheets.
